The European Congress on Civil Protection and Disaster Management is an initiative of the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance, the Federal Agency of Technical Relief and the newspaper Behörden Spiegel.
The main topics of this year’s convention are: the changes on the European stage with regard to the policies implied by the Treaty of Lisbon and the restructuring of national disaster management structures.

In the framework of the 7th Annual Worldwide Security Conference the Institute for Environmental Security together with the EastWest Institute organised a workshop: "Climate Change & Security after Copenhagen".
The necessity of organising such event was underpinned with the arrival of the new Commission and the new Treaty both leading to institutional and personnel changes amongst many of those who have been dealing with issues of environmental security.
The purpose of the workshop was to re-state the importance of Climate Change & Security as an issue also separating it from the discussion about the Copenhagen Accord as well as to identify an institutional home for the debate; outlining necessary research and teaching on the issue and to plan co-ordinated action in 2010.

The annual European Security Research Conference has, since its start, been a major component in the evolution of civil European security research. We are thus proud to welcome You to the fourth conference which will be held in Stockholm on the 29th to 30th of September 2009. This event will be organized by the Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation systems under the Swedish Presidency of the European Union.
On 17 December, the Institute for Environmental Security took part to a side event entitled "Delivering climate security: What the Security Community needs from a global climate regime".
The event organised in Copenhagen by E3G in partnership with IES took place in 17th of December 2009 and addressed to explore climate change impacts on national security and how the global climate regime can address this threat.
